Aftercare

When you leave, your tattoo will be covered with a clean dressing, leave this on for around 4 hours.

Stage One: Washing and Clingfilm

Before you remove the dressing ensure you have the following to hand; clingfilm, kitchen roll, micropore tape (optional).

When you remove the dressing the tattoo will have ink, blood and vaseline on it, which is perfectly normal.

Wash your hands and then the tattoo and surrounding areas, with water and a mild non-perfumed soap. Just use you hand and not a sponge or cloth of any type.

Pat dry with clean kitchen paper, do not rub and do not use a towel. Towels can leave fibres. You are not trying to leave the area completely dry, just gently remove the excess water.

Before the tattoo can completely air dry, cover it immediately with the clean inside of clingfilm.

If possible, use some micropore tape to secure it. If not, wrap it all the way round so that it stay flush to the skin. You will need to change the cling film every three to four hours.

Your artist will recommend how long to repeat this process for (maximum 48 hours)

Stage Two: Moisturising

When you remove the clingfilm for the final time, wash the tattoo gently and pat dry it with some clean kitchen roll. Once it’s uncovered, give the tattoo 5 to 10 minutes to dry and get some fresh air. You can then apply a very thin layer of moisturiser (Bepanthen).

For the first week moisturise it 2-3 times a day, and the following week 1-2 times a day. You do not want to completely soak the tattoo in moisturiser, just a fine layer. Too much cream is as bad as too little.

After the first few days of using cream you can switch to a more liquid moisturiser (such as E45 lotion) if you wish as Bepanthen is quite thick and greasy.

Whilst the tattoo is still healing (2-3 weeks) we highly recommend you DO NOT:

- Pick or scratch the tattoo

- Soak the tattoo (no baths, swimming, saunas etc.)

- Sunbathe or use a sun bed. To take extra care of your tattoo you should use high factor sunscreen for at least the first year.

- Shave or wax the tattooed area.

- Use any cream, other than what we recommend, on you tattoo
